Racine Lutheran’s football team is in the midst of one of its most dominant seasons in school history.
The team is led by Eric Ibarra, a junior, who has played eight different positions for the team this year and has provided tremendous leadership.
Ibarra's focusing on a team mindset has helped him excel this season.
“Two ways you can go about high school sports,” he said. “You can either come out here and say ‘I want the ball, I want this, I want to score,' or you can do teamwork and be a team leader.”
Ibarra is second on the team for both rushing and receptions with 175 yards and 422 yards, respectively, and scored seven total TDs.
The Crusaders football team has won five straight games, which head coach Scott Smith said is a testament to star players such as Ibarra putting the team first.
“You never hear a bad word out of his mouth and he’s always such a team leader,” Smith said. “Even in the weight room, he’ll get on kids for not being in there, but he has a way of talking and motivating kids. And that’s a gift.”
