A woman who was shot at 509 Social Lounge in Racine was recently released from the hospital.
Nakreisha McFarland was one of five who was shot. All five suffered injuries and survived the shooting. McFarland was shot three times – once in the arm and twice in the leg, according to Fox 6 Now.
"I was like, 'I’ve been hit,'" McFarland said, according to Fox 6 Now. "The next thing you know I got hit right here. The second hit, so I’m still running I see nothing but blackness around me."
John Brown, 50, was the gunman and ended up turning the gun on himself. Police told Fox 6 Now that they tried to negotiate with the shooter for several minutes before killing himself.
"I truly believe I was a target of it because I suffered the most hits, but everyone else was just in the way trying to run for their life, too," McFarland said, according to Fox 6 Now.
McFarland said she is spreading the word about her story to prevent something like this from happening to someone else.
"Don’t look past the red flags," McFarland said, according to Fox 6 Now. "Get out. Get out so you don’t end up in a situation like me."
Fox 6 Now reported that McFarland feels lucky to be alive today.
"I know, although he shot me – but something in my body and my spirit calmed me and, and I’m not mad," McFarland said, per Fox 6 Now. "I feel free, but I’m not mad."
Marty McGee, a Racine resident, told Fox 6 Now that Racine is still a great place despite the negative press lately.
"It puts a black mark on Racine again," McGee said, according to Fox 6 Now. "Racine is always getting down for having so much drama and things like that, but it really isn’t like that at all. This is an awesome area."
