Gateway Technical College is set to host its 14th annual event Celebrate Earth Day on April 23, with a goal of teaching people how to take better care of the environment.

This year's event will take place in person, with the public able to take part in hands-on activities at the school's Kenosha and Elkhorn campuses, Kenosha.com reported in a release. New features for this year include vendors in the Pike Creek Horticulture Center and a stream of Earth Day activities, kids' crafts and info booths.

"We're excited to offer a wide range of activities, displays and information for adults and children at Celebrate Earth Day," Abbie Ford, manager of community relations and communications for Gateway Technical College, said in the release. "We're also excited to be able to offer the event in person this year, and hope the public will come to celebrate the environment with us at both campuses."

In years past, the Celebrate Earth Day event has drawn thousands of visitors, Kenosha.com reported. Each year, Snap-on Incorporated has served as a sponsor of the event.

Now in operation for more than a century since 1911, Gateway Technical College was the nation's first publicly funded technical college, Kenosha.com reported. The school boasts more than 70 study programs that serve 21,000 students per year.
