Racine Mayor Cory Mason recently promoted the Mini Makeover Program and congratulated local business owner Yolanda Coleman on the grand reopening of her apparel store, Plush Clothing.
Offered through the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), the Mini Makeover Program is an outgrowth of the Main Street Makeover Contest and was launched to provide local small retailers an opportunity to prepare their businesses for the holiday shopping season.
"Thanks to Downtown Racine for hosting the grand reopening of Plush Clothing," Mason wrote in a Nov. 8 Facebook post. "Yolanda Coleman opened Plush in the spring of 2019 and was awarded a WEDC Fall Mini Makeover grant. The place looks great. Stop by to shop and congratulate Yolanda!"
Yolanda Coleman opened Plush Clothing, an acronym for Pretty, Lovely, Unique, Sexy, Happy, in 2019 after working in retail management for over 30 years. Prior to the makeover event in early November, Yolanda held a series of events in October to raise awareness for breast cancer, of which she is a two-time survivor.
The Mini Makeover takes place over the course of a special 24-hour event and focuses on smaller changes, while the Main Street Makeover Contest entails a full remodel and incurs substantial costs.
According to a press release, Plush Clothing’s Mini Makeover cost just under $5,000 and focused on improvements such as lighting and signage. The makeover was completed by staff from the WEDC and Retailworks Inc., a Milwaukee-based design company.
