Racine residents who get the COVID-19 vaccine may receive a reward as part of various ongoing vaccine incentive programs, Mayor Cory Mason said.
Mason explained the process in a Facebook post.
“Get your no-cost COVID-19 vaccine at Regency Mall and you’ll receive a $50 gift card for your first dose and another $50 gift card when you return for your second dose,” the mayor wrote. “If you get the one-shot Johnson & Johnson, you get $100 in gift cards! Already vaccinated? Bring a friend and get a $50 ‘Good Neighbor’ gift card. Interested in a booster dose? Booster doses are also being provided by the Regency Mall Clinic.”
As of Nov. 5, according to COVIDActNow.com, 58.3% of all people in Racine County have gotten at least one dose of a vaccine whereas 54% are fully vaccinated.
The website reported that cases and hospitalizations in the county have both decreased over the past 30 days, with 18 out of 37 staffed ICU beds currently occupied by non-COVID patients, and one of which is occupied by a COVID patient.
Bayfield County leads the state in vaccination rates, with 80% of residents having received at least one dose, COVIDActNow.com reported.
The CDC currently recommends that anyone over the age of 18 who got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine receive a booster shot at least two months after the initial dose.
The CDC recommends that people who got the other vaccines get a booster if they are at least 65 years old, or between 50 and 64 with underlying health conditions.
The Journal Times reported that Racine was scheduled to bring a pop-up mobile vaccination clinic to neighborhoods in Alderwoman Mollie Jones’s district, District 2, in the southwest part of the city of approximately 77,000 along Lake Michigan.
