Burlington Area School District recently issued the following announcement.
On Monday, June 7, the Burlington Area School District School Board voted that face masks will be optional for summer school, athletic programs, community education programs, and organizations using district buildings. The board’s conversation is available online at 1:44:23.
Since the pandemic began in March 2020, the district has been focused on the overall well-being of students, staff, and the community. This will continue to be BASD’s focus for people participating in district-affiliated summer programs. We will foster a positive and safe environment for all participants, encourage hand washing/sanitizing, and social distancing as possible.
It is important to note that there is a federal requirement that face coverings be worn on mass transportation. Students traveling by school bus, for example, student-athletes traveling to a competition, will still need to wear a mask while on the bus.
At a later date, the board will meet to determine what risk mitigation will be needed when school resumes on or after September 7.
