Cost of college went up for all students at Gateway Technical College

In-state tuition and fees rose 1.9 percent for 2018-19 at Gateway Technical College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Wisconsin residents paid $4,454 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $85 more than the $4,369 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 45.2 percent more than residents this year, or $6,467. Their price tag grew 1.8 percent from $6,352 in 2017-18.

About 97 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Wisconsin residents. And about 3 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 74 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 300 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.6 million and 173 students took out student loans totaling more than $973,408.

Including all undergraduates (7,037), 2,860 students used grants or scholarships totaling $12.3 million, and 2,049 students took out $11.6 million in federal student loans.
