Wisconsin attorney general candidate Eric Toney has no patience for all the violence that he’s seeing.

“In Racine yesterday, I spoke with voters about my plan to stand with our law enforcement, end the sweeping uptick of violence and drugs across our state, and defend Wisconsin against government overreach,” Toney posted on Twitter this week.

Toney’s words came at approximately the same time 16-year-old Quentin Smith died of gunshot wounds he suffered at the hands of another teen, a TMJ4 report said. After the shooting, Smith was airlifted to a local hospital by Racine police, where he died.

Authorities have since charged an unnamed 15-year-old boy in connection with the shooting, indicating that he will be charged with first-degree intentional homicide.

A GoFundMe has now been set up by the victim’s family, a WDJT report said. Anyone who might have any knowledge about the crime is encouraged to contact the police department.

While some areas of crime—including rape, prostitution and sex offenses—have decreased across Racine this year compared to 2021, many other areas have skyrocketed; a Racine City Police Department report said on Wednesday. Criminal homicides are up 125%, more than double in the first eight months of 2022 compared to the first eight months of 2021. Robbery, burglary, arson, and stolen property charges are also higher this year.
