Shane Rawley was born on July 27, 1955. He grew up in Racine and graduated from William Horlick High School in 1973. He played both basketball and baseball there. After one year at Indian Hills Community College, he was drafted in 1974. Rawley made his MLB debut with the Seattle Mariners in 1978. He first worked as a reliever, then became a starting pitcher. He later played for the Yankees, Phillies, and Twins. In 1986, he was selected as a National League All-Star. In 1987, he won 17 games and led the league in starts. He retired with 111 wins and nearly 1,000 strikeouts. Rawley later co-owned a softball complex in Yorkville. He was inducted into the Racine County Sports Hall of Fame in 2011. He now owns a pizzeria in Florida and published a novel in 2023. His professional sports journey began in Racine.
