This week in Racine County history.

Karen Johnson Boyd died on January 29, 2016.

Karen Johnson Boyd, daughter of Herbert Fisk Johnson Jr., passed away on January 29, 2016, at the age of 91 in Racine, Wisconsin. Known for her work as an art dealer, she supported craft and contemporary artists through her Perimeter Gallery, which she founded in Chicago in 1982. She contributed over 1,750 pieces to the Racine Art Museum and played a key role in the museum's 2003 expansion. Boyd was also involved in the design and construction of the new museum building, which houses galleries named in her honor. A member of the Johnson family, she spent her early years at Wingspread, a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home in Wind Point. Boyd also commissioned Wright to design her own home, Keland House, in 1954, where she lived for much of her life.
