Racine County's foster care information series is underway this month, teaching locals what is involved in becoming a foster parent.
Throughout June, the foster care system will host seven sessions, taking place at four aquatic centers in Racine County, designed to inspire locals to "take the plunge" into volunteering as foster parents, Racine County Eye reported.
"Foster care is so important because it is the one true way that communities can help raise themselves up, help heal from within and grow," Jessica Scheeler, foster parent recruiter for Racine County, told Racine County Eye. "Foster care helps the whole family."
There are currently 120 children and 97 providers involved in Racine County's foster care system, Racine County Eye reported.
"This is an opportunity for community members to learn about the rewarding, life-changing experience that is becoming a foster parent," Scheeler said. "If you've ever been interested in fostering or wondered what it takes to become a foster parent, we encourage you to attend a session."
Attendees will be given a day pass to visit an aquatic center in Racine County, which includes the Racine Unified School District Aquatic Center, Burlington Community Aquatic Center, SC Johnson Aquatic Center and YMCA Sealed Air Branch.
