A former Burlington elementary school staffer faces sex assault charges after being accused of making “inappropriate physical contact” with students in multiple instances.
Fox6Now.com adds that Daniel Powers was also terminated from his job earlier this month amid accusations he violated school district policy.
All told, Powers, who was taken into custody on April 25, faces three counts of referred charges of repeated sexual assault of a child and three counts of misconduct in office after officials from the Racine County Sheriff’s Office said investigators developed probable cause that Powers "victimized multiple students."
According to Fox News, the alleged contact took place over a yearlong period commencing in 2021 and came to light after a parent whose children attend Dyer Elementary School reported "multiple instances" of a staffer's inappropriate physical contact with students. The District sent a letter to families on April 21, alerting them to the situation.
With the investigation still ongoing and investigators indicating they have reason to believe there may be more victims, authorities are asking anyone with information related to the case to call investigators at 262-636-3323 or email andrew.willis@racinecounty.com.
"There is nothing more precious than the innocence of a child, and I pledge that I will bring the full force of the Sheriff’s Office to investigate every and all allegations of inappropriate conduct with children so that the perpetrator, if guilty, can be brought to justice and duly held accountable," Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling said in a statement.
