After lots of changes and unrest all over the UW circuit of schools’ basketball programs and rosters, things have started to clear up as players are committing and being recruited.

UW Madison snagged one of the top choices and looks forward to keeping a Wisconsin native in his home state. According to a release from the university, recruit Kamari McGee is a 6-foot guard coming over from UW Green Bay and a native of Racine, Wisconsin where he led his team at Racine St. Catherines to the 2021 WICA State Championship. He was the leading scorer at UW GB last season as a freshman starter and announced his entrance to the transfer portal as a move to better his career.

According to Bucky's 5th Quarter, UW Madison suffered a big loss at the end of their basketball season when sophomore Lorne Bowman II left the university to continue his academic and athletic career closer to his hometown of Detroit. Since then, there has been lots of talk and guesses about the movements inside the NCAA transfer portal, and about who UW will claim to fill that and other holes in the roster, the most talked-about move being the recruitment of Kamari McGee.

McGee took to Twitter to voice a shout-out, tweeting "Badger nation what’s up?"

Both McGee and Coach Greg Gard were very excited to announce the news. McGee has risen to a level of statewide fame since his original commitment to UW GB where he was named the league's freshman of the week three times, shooting 50.7% in his last five games with the Phoenixes. Everyone is thrilled that the local hero will be staying in the state, and there's a buzz for an interview about the star’s journey with a local Youtuber that will air this week.
