Visitors to the 13th annual International Peeps Exhibition often find themselves hungry for more.
The art exhibit returned to the Racine Art Museum on April 7, and organizers want visitors to know it is about more than just sweet times.
"You must not think of them as conventional candy," Lisa Englander recently told WEAU.com. "You need to think of them as a method to an end."
Englander handles the exhibit's guest relations and retail operations.
The exhibition highlights Peeps that have been painted and glued for certain works of art. The art put out for viewing must be made out of Peeps or be about Peeps. For this year's competition, there were 162 entries in the gallery, with winners pegged to get a golden Peep.
At least some of the time, not everyone can wait.
"Now and then, we'll come in and find that a piece of a Peep is missing, and we know that somebody has either taken it or chomped on it," Englander said.
Organizers stressed it's not really about winning or the prizes, but about different ways of making art.
"I like it because of the happiness that it brings to people," Englander told WEAU.
The exhibit features Peeps in various settings such as camping, animatronics and even Peeps on a video chat call. In addition, this year's gallery features an entire section about the invasion of Ukraine.
"There are many pieces about freedom and rights," Englander said. "So people are speaking to all aspects of their life here."
The exhibit runs through April 23.
