Rep. Bryan Steil (R-Janesville) has earned the title of ranking member on the Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness and Growth.
“ICYMI: I was named the Ranking Member on the new Select Committee on the Economy," Steil said in a Dec. 27 tweet. "After a great first year, I am excited to work with the committee next year!”
Steil is working to strengthen the American manufacturing industry and address issues such as supply chain disruptions and inflation, according to Steil's website.
“Communities in Wisconsin are struggling to cope with our challenging economic situation right now," Steil said, according to an Oct. 18 press release published on the congressmember's website. "Rising inflation for necessities like food and energy, tight supply chains and shortages, including skilled worker shortages, are hitting family budgets. Too often, policymakers and newsmakers in Washington overlook or ignore what is happening in the Midwest. Wisconsin has long been a leader for American manufacturing and our workers can compete with anyone in the world, if given a fair shake."
Steil said he is eager to work with his colleagues to create policies to support southeast Wisconsin workers and families.
Steil and Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) stated that their hope is that the Select Committee will help restore the American Dream by creating bipartisan solutions to address economic challenges. They said that as a Republican and a Democrat, they have already found common ground, such as their belief in the importance of access to capital and their belief that they should remove “burdensome regulations," according to Newsweek.
Steil was elected in 2018 to represent Southeast Wisconsin. In addition to the Select Committee on the Economy, Steil serves as co-chair of the Middle-Class Jobs Caucus and co-chair of the Future of Work Caucus, per the representative's website.
