Esports opportunities in Racine might attain new heights, especially with Joseph Schurian coaching the high school students in esports.

“We want to aid in giving these children opportunities,” Schurian said in a video.

A professional twitch streamer, Schurian coaches local Racine high school teams in esports and Rocket League.

“I’ve been a coach for Smash. I’ve been a coach for Overwatch. I’ve been a coach for Rocket League,” Schurian said. “I know what a lot of those games take to build a team around.”

There are five Racine high schools that now have gaming teams, and most of them didn’t exist five years ago. Esports is not only a simple club where kids come together to play video games.

“[Players] are able to learn sportsmanship and teamwork at this young age when they’re learning to grow as people,” said T.J. Buchmann, who has worked under Schurian at Not Your Parents’ Basement Gaming Lounge.

Schurian is now hosting a raffle that will end with the giving away of over $3,000 worth of prizes and gaming gear to kids who enter. He hopes to give kids a chance and an interest in progressing in gaming.
