Racine Mayor Cory Mason recently took to social media with a reminder that washing hands, drinking plenty of water, exercising and eating a nutritional diet are important for health.

That advice is good in any time but is especially so during the still ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Mason said in his Tuesday, Nov. 16 Facebook post.

"Good nutrition is always important, but during this pandemic, it's even more important because a well-balanced diet of nutritious foods helps support a strong immune system," Mason said.

He then got to the heart of his reminder.

"Wash your hands properly – and frequently," Mason continued in his Facebook post. "Washing your hands properly – and frequently – is the single most important thing you can do to prevent the spread and germs and stay healthy. Drink water. Staying well hydrated is essential to staying healthy. Drinking enough water – about 8 to 10 glasses or 64 ounces a day – can also help ward off cravings."

Mason's advice about remaining healthy is backed up by Culligan Water.

"Water can do wonders for your body, especially when it works as an immune system booster," Culligan says on its website. "Thanks to water's miraculous properties, you can take advantage of this extremely versatile, natural immune booster in order to help improve your health and well-being. There are several ways water can be used to facilitate positive effects on the body."

Mason also quoted advice from Lindsey Wohlford, an employee wellness dietitian at the University of Texas' MD Anderson Cancer Center, that was part of a feature published by the university in April of last year.

"Don't forget to exercise," Mason said in his Facebook post. "It may seem difficult to exercise when you can't go to the gym or attend your favorite fitness classes. But says Wohlford, 'It's important to find new ways to exercise, which benefits both your physical and mental health.'"
