An agreement between five midwestern states to develop an EV charging system, along with other related products has garnered the attention of Rep. Greta Neubauer (D-Racine).
Neubauer took to Twitter to write that the partnership would help the state prosper in the long run.
“Partnerships like REV Midwest will lead the way to a resilient, climate-friendly future in Wisconsin! Let’s pass the #BuildBackBetter Infrastructure bill and bring this plan home,” she tweeted.
According to NPR, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan governors have aligned themselves to create the Regional Electric Vehicle (REV) Midwest Coalition with a mission to facilitate a grid of charging stations for electric vehicles in hopes to invigorate their economies while reducing emissions.
The governors signed the “Memorandum of Understanding" which defines REV Midwest’s three main objectives: “Accelerate medium and heavy duty fleet electrification, elevate economic growth and industry leadership, advance equity and clean environment.”
The agreement calls for the states to "work together to enable an equitable transition to electric vehicles for all with specific consideration for communities that are historically disadvantaged."
The news of REV Midwest comes on the heels of Michigan-based automaker Ford announcing that they are investing billions of dollars in building electric vehicle production facilities in Kentucky and Tennessee.
