The Food Network has recently featured a small diner in Wisconsin.
The diner’s name is Franks Diner and it has been mentioned in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and the NFL Network, to name a few.
“It’s a great feeling to know that you’re really part of a community. People expect you to be here, they want you to be here,” Kevin Ervin, owner of Franks Diner, said.
Franks Diner is the oldest-running diner in the United States.
It opened in 1926, with an additional dining room in 1935 and a larger kitchen added in the 1940s. It was owned and operated by the Franks family until 2001 when they sold it.
The small town of Kenosha is just under 100,000 people but welcomed Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives back to their favorite restaurant for a second time in August. The episode aired on the Food Network on Aug. 20.
Franks has many options on the menu but has always been famous for their Garbage Plate: a mess of hash browns, eggs, meat, veggies, and cheese.
“Franks Diner has always been a place where everyone’s view can be expressed and people go to talk over all types of issues,” Kenosha Mayor John Antaramian said in a statement on NBC Chicago. “The comfortable atmosphere and excellent food make for a fun place to be. Franks Diner is a staple of the community and a great example of the strength of Kenosha.”
