Despite coming in third place during a competition at Red Sands Beach in Wisconsin Rapids last month, the Janesville Rock Aqua Jays took home the top prize at the 46th Indmar Marine Engines Division 1 Show Ski National Championships.
Prior to winning the national team title during the Aug. 15 competition at Traxler Park in Janesville, U.S. Congressman Bryan Steil (R-WI) cheered the Rock Aqua Jays on via social media.
"The Show Ski National Championship is taking place in Janesville Wisconsin today! Good luck to the Aqua Jays," Steil wrote in an Aug. 15 tweet.
During the state competition back in mid-July, Twin Lakes' Aquanuts defeated the Aqua Jays and took home their first tournament title in more than three decades, according to a report from MyKenoshaCounty.com.
During the national D1 competition, the Rock Aqua Jays used the home water advantage and racked in a number of accomplishments for the team, according to a release from Team USA Water Ski & Wake Sports.
Team USA Water Ski & Wake Sports also said the tournament in Janesville included more than 1,500 athletes and 14 teams in the competition this year. The event was cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
