City committee officials approved two different requests for anniversary celebrations within Kenosha.
Officials unanimously approved the requests both for a Justice for Jacob one-year anniversary event and the centennial celebration of a local company Snap-on.
Tanya McLean asked for some additional police support for the Day of Reflection in late August surrounding the one year anniversary of the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha by a police officer.
“That’s just standard protocol,” McLean, the executive director of Leaders of Kenosha, said. “We just had Juneteenth. We had our own security. But police, they just keep a watch out for other things. That’s not something out of the ordinary.”
McLean went on to describe the event.
"We're going to have speakers," McLean said. "Just a day of reflection."
As for the Snap-on event, organizers expected an upbeat environment.
“We’re finally getting to celebrate. [The 100 year mark] was in 2020, but it took a little detour," Marketing analyst Alexandria Egolf said on behalf of Snap-on.
City officials commended the marketing analyst on behalf of Snap-on for 100 years of good business and how much the company has benefited the Kenosha community. Snap-on's centennial celebration will include a concert and 2012 Miss America Laura Kaeppeler Fleiss. The Justice For Jacob event will take place from 2 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 21 at Civic Center Park.
