In an effort to stimulate interest in STEM fields and introduce students to coding, Wisconsin's First Congressional District is hosting the Congressional App Challenge for middle and high school students in Southeast Wisconsin.
Applications are now being accepted, according to Rep. Bryan Steil.
The competition calls on participants to create their own app and submit it to the judging committee. Students must also provide a background and purpose for creating the app as part of the application.
In recent years, coding and app development has become a coveted skill with significant career demand. So, it's no surprise that Wisconsin and other states around the country are doing what they can to incentivize participation in this field in order to bring higher-paying jobs to the economy.
Steil announced the competition in a tweet, saying, "Attention middle school & high school students in Southeast WI: The @CongressionalAC is now accepting applications! The Congressional App Challenge is a great way to get involved in coding & computer programming. I look forward to seeing your apps!"
It is the hope of officials in Wisconsin that the competition will drum up interest for these careers and provide the state with more jobs in the field, a proposition that would be altogether beneficial for the state economy.
