Lawrence David Kusche died on July 22, 2024. He was born on November 1, 1940, in Racine, Wisconsin. His family moved to Arizona when he was six. He trained in aviation. By age 21, he was a commercial pilot. He later became a flight instructor and instrument instructor.

Kusche earned a degree from Arizona State University in 1964. He later completed a master’s degree in library science. He worked as a high school teacher and then as a librarian at ASU’s Hayden Library starting in 1969.

As a librarian, he received many questions about the Bermuda Triangle. This led him to begin his own investigation. He and a colleague gathered official documents, news reports, and government records. The result was The Bermuda Triangle Mystery: Solved, published in 1975. He concluded most stories about the Triangle were due to error, poor research, or false claims.

He later published The Disappearance of Flight 19, detailing a Navy training flight that vanished in 1945. He examined flight records, interviewed Navy personnel, and recreated the route. His work explained the events in clear, factual terms.

He also wrote books on cooking and fitness. He worked as a technical writer in Arizona and became a fellow of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry.

Kusche was born in Racine, though most of his life was spent in Arizona. His early years in Wisconsin were the beginning of a path that led to a career focused on clarity, fact-checking, and public education.
