For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic hit two years ago, plans are underway to stage the Racine Memorial Day parade on May 30.
“Everyone we’ve talked to is so excited to have it (the parade) back,” parade organizer Matt Gorbaty told RacineCountyEye.com this week. “We know that it really means a lot to people. Anyone interested in participating is welcome.”
The event is being organized by Racine Area Veterans Inc. (RAVI), which has already made a formal request with the City of Racine to hold the event. If the request is approved, organizers said the parade will follow the traditional route it has taken in previous years, starting at the intersection of West Boulevard and Washington Avenue and ending at Graceland Cemetery off of Osbourne Boulevard.
The Racine Common Council is expected to act on the request at its April 11 meeting.
“Participants will be asked to assemble on West Boulevard, south of Washington, starting at 9 a.m,” Gorbaty said. “The parade will step off at 10 a.m.”
