The Racine Raiders’ coaching staff is receiving kudos for its job preparing the team, which is off to a great season, winning four of their first five games.

The Raiders are beat the Wisconsin Hitmen Saturday, June 11, at Historic Horlick Athletic Field, in a 35-34 come-from-behind win.

The team lost 14-12 in its first away game on June 4 against the Illinois Cowboys but won their first three games: 39-0 against the Sheboygan County Sabercats on May 14, 29-7 against rivals St. Paul Pioneers on May 21 and 2-0 by forfeit against the Wisconsin Raptors on May 28.

“My coaching staff has done an excellent job in preparation, game planning and coaching up players,” Raiders head coach Wilbert Kennedy told the Racine County Eye. “There’s a lot of film study time that goes into getting ready for a game, and they all spend a lot of time breaking down our last game film and the current team we are playing that week. I have a great staff that puts in some serious overtime because they love the game.”

The Raiders scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, giving them a 12-point lead in their second game against rivals St. Paul Pioneers on May 21. Quarterback Mitch Farr completed 13-for-23 passes for 172 yards and four touchdowns with Joe Garcia, finishing with 93 yards receiving on five catches, the Racine County Eye said. The win snapped the Raiders’ four-game losing streak to the Pioneers and the Raiders now lead the all-time series 5-4.

The Raiders won the game against the Wisconsin Raptors on May 21 by forfeit.
