Eugene Harry Rose was born July 11, 1904, in Racine, Wisconsin. He attended Racine High School and played football there. He enrolled at the University of Wisconsin in 1925. He played football for the Wisconsin Badgers from 1925 to 1928. Rose played as halfback and quarterback. He was known for passing and running during games.
After college, Rose played professional football. He joined the Chicago Cardinals in the National Football League. His career with the Cardinals lasted from 1929 to 1932. Rose played in 34 games, starting 18 of them. He scored 37 points through six touchdowns and one extra point.
His playing years had legal issues. In 1930, he was charged with aiding the theft of fur coats. In 1931, he faced a charge for stealing an automobile. While at Wisconsin, he was also charged with assault and battery.
Rose died February 1, 1979. His connection to Racine comes from his birth and early years in the city. Despite legal troubles, Rose had a notable football career at the college and professional levels.
