FOIA Request Sent to Town of Waterford Regarding New Voter Registrations on November 7, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Waterford regarding new voter registrations on November 7, 2024.

The request, made by us at Racine Sun, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq. Specifically, we asked for a list of voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024.

As journalists committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to such public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We await a response from the Town of Waterford and will continue our efforts in bringing light to important local governmental affairs.
